Week 5 Practical
Week 5: In this lecture, we'll explore double exposure photography, a technique that merges multiple images to craft surreal, emotional, or humorous effects, often featuring silhouettes. While it might seem intricate at first, you can achieve this effect both in-camera and through Adobe Photoshop, without needing specialized double-exposure cameras. Editing expands the possibilities, transforming ordinary photos into striking masterpieces.

Double Exposure Photography: It merges multiple images, crafting surreal, emotional, or humorous effects, often with silhouettes. While it might seem intricate, you can easily achieve double exposures with camera techniques or using Adobe Photoshop.
-
Photoshop Blending Modes: It is great for merging intricate subjects like fire or smoke with background images. These modes often require some experimentation. For instance, the Screen mode enables overlaying images like fire, allowing specific pixels to blend smoothly.
-
Photoshop Techniques:
- Tilt-Shift Effect: Apply selective blurring for a soft, artistic look.
- Fake Reflection: Create reflections by blending images, such as combining raindrop textures with a primary image.
- Simple Portraits with Textures: Merge plain images with complex textures to balance simplicity and detail.
- Black & White Conversion: Removing color enhances emotion and depth.
- Silhouette Use: Focusing solely on silhouettes can lead to unique, creative images.
- Random Photo Pairing: Combining unrelated images may result in unplanned but meaningful compositions.
- Ordinary Objects Transformation: Everyday objects can be reimagined into something extraordinary, such as making a building outline resemble a night sky.
- Shadow Utilization: Shadows, like silhouettes, add intriguing elements to compositions. These techniques offer broad creative possibilities for transforming simple photographs into visually compelling pieces.
Week 5
We were to get our Digital Imaging Exercise which required us to complete the Hearst Mansion task by following the instruction video provided. We got 2 different images which we had to edit using several tools such as Quick Selection tool, Layer Mask, Filters and Color Correction and combine into one final image. Further explore it more using our own picture.

Progress Work:Week 5: This project was both challenging and exciting, as it introduced us to new tools in Photoshop, enabling us to effectively blend and manipulate images. Through lecture and instructional videos, we gained a solid understanding of tools such as the Quick Selection tool, Layer Mask, Filters and Color Correction. The filters enhanced the editing process, while Color Correction helped us achieve harmony between the combined images. Additionally, incorporating a personal image encouraged us to explore creatively, adding a unique and personal touch to the final piece. This project not only improved our technical skills in digital editing but also enhanced our creative thinking and problem-solving abilities. It boosted our confidence in experimenting with Photoshop's design elements and tools. Overall, this experience has laid a strong foundation in digital imaging, sparking excitement to explore further and push our creative boundaries in future projects.
