Week 2 Practical
LECTURE
Week 2: In the second week’s lecture, we explored the fundamentals of basic composition, covering key concepts such as the focal point which naturally draws the viewer's eye to the most important part of the design. We discussed scale and hierarchy which help convey the importance of elements by directing attention towards and away from certain elements, signifying importance of communication. Next was balance, particularly asymmetrical balance, where each element carries visual weight. The use of white space or empty space, was also highlighted for its role in balancing the composition and enhancing clarity. Additionally, we covered important principles such as the rule of thirds which divides an image into thirds using horizontal and vertical lines and the golden ratiowhich is a mathematical ratio often found in nature. Techniques such as framing and cropping were also covered. These concepts were not only explained theoretically, but we also engaged in practical application to enhance our understanding of these components.
PRACTICAL
PROJECT 1A
PHYSICAL COLLAGE DESIGN
Week 2
For part 1 of this assignment we were instructed to choose and cut out elements from magazines and compose it into own concept. We had to make 3 composition design using these cut outs from which Mr. Fauzii would select the best one to work further on.

Final Composition
Week 2: The start of our first project was exciting but also challenging as there was a huge range of ideas to explore around and was really confusing to come up with compositions using selective elements or cut outs. The challenge of arranging the cutouts into balanced compositions pushed me to experiment different elements while also considering how each element interacted with others. Once we completed our designs, getting them reviewed for further development, added an additional layer of constructive feedback and refinement. Overall, this experiment helped me appreciate the importance of composition in design and encouraged me to think more intuitively about how to arrange elements to communicate an idea effectively. It was a valuable learning experience that expanded my creative approach and problem-solving skills.
