Week 3 Practical

LECTURE

Week 3: In this lecture, we were introduced to Photoshop, focusing on the Lasso Tool, Pen Tool, and Layering. We began with an overview of the toolbox, which contains various tools that can be expanded to reveal additional options, including the marquee selection tools used for selecting and masking parts of an image. We then explored the Lasso Tool, which allows drawing and pointing specific areas of a document. It's similar to sketching with a pencil or cutting and pasting objects from a photo. There are three types of Lasso Tools in the toolbar: the standard Lasso, the Polygonal Lasso, and the Magnetic Lasso. To enhance our understanding, we watched a video demonstrating the practical use of the Lasso Tool.Next, we moved on to the Pen Tool, which is used to create paths from scratch, allowing precise shape creation through manually placed anchor points. Although it's not inherently a selection tool, it's commonly used. We viewed several videos and variations of how to effectively use the Pen Tool to advance our knowledge. We also discussed the key difference between the Lasso Tool and the Pen Tool: the Lasso is primarily for selection, while the Pen Tool is used for precise shapes and paths. Lastly, we covered the concept of layering, where different images are stacked on top of each other, allowing each layers to be used seperately without affecting another one. This technique supports non-destructive editing, meaning adjustments can be made without altering the original image. Layers contain additional elements that contribute to the final composition, offering flexibility in editing. We also watched a video to better grasp the layering process.
PRACTICAL

Week 3

We had to finalise 1 out of the 3 compositions with the help of the tutor to make the Final composition.

REFLECTIONS

Week 3: During the final part of the part 1 our assignment each of the three drafts represented different ideas I wanted to explore, but I struggled with deciding which one had the strongest message. After discussing with Mr. Fauzii, I realised that while all three had potential, the third composition had a stronger contrast. This made it clear that this piece would be my final choice. The final composition featured two different people, split half and half under the same window, symbolizing that they shared common ground but were still very different individuals. To elaborate on this idea, I placed one person on the dark side and the other on the bright side to clearly show their contrast. I am proud of the final product, but if I had more time, I would further enhance some sections. This experience taught me the value of feedback in the creative process and helped me improve my creative skills significantly.
