Experience: This was my first semester at BDCM, so the experience felt really overwhelming and challenging since everything was so new to me. Among all my modules, Typography was the most time-consuming and demanding because it was my first time working with letters and fonts in such details. Despite the effort it required, I gradually started enjoying experimenting with text, and the small details of letters began to make sense. Each assignment gave me the chance to explore different aspects of Typography, helping me improve my knowledge and skills.
The weekly feedback from Ms. Vitiyaa was very helpful during the work process, especially in refining the details. Her guidance kept me on track throughout the 14 weeks of this module and helped me take the right approach to meet the design objectives of each project. I also truly appreciate the support of my peers, who helped me a lot throughout the semester, both practically and emotionally.
Observations: Throughout these tasks, observing my peers' work and exploring online references taught me that typography is highly subjective, with everyone having their own unique way of portraying the same concept and endless creative possibilities. Through research, sketching, and deconstructing fonts, I gained a deeper understanding of their structure and minor details which we overlooked before. It was fascinating to see how the same text could be interpreted in so many different ways, showcasing individual creativity and personality. All these observations demonstrated how creativity and technical skills combine to produce original and meaningful designs.
Findings: Throughout the semester i found out that the design process is also as important as the final result, as it allows us to explore different approaches and enhance creativity. A solid understanding of typography basics helped me appreciate details like typefaces, kerning, and spacing, which improve readability and aesthetics in all my assignments. It also strengthened my problem-solving, time management, and creative thinking skills. Overall, this experience gave me a strong foundation in typography and inspired me to learn more about it.
