PROGRESS

WEBSITE 1 CAPTAIN GOOSEBUMPS

https://www.awwwards.com/sites/captain-goosebumps

PURPOSE & GOALS: The primary objective of the website is to create an engaging, interactive, and fun experience that promotes the theme 'Live in Color.' It tells a playful story while raising awareness through a creative digital experience. This aligns with its aim of symbolizing the importance of creativity, color, and individuality in life. While the site is engaging and many users may enjoy its game-like feel, some might miss the deeper purpose behind it. Its recent creation is reflected in the use of modern design trends.

VISUAL DESIGN & LAYOUT: Visually, this website is really modernized and aesthetic. It uses perfectly contrasting colors like deep blues and soft cream, making it vibrant and fun to look at. The fonts are playful and creative yet the readability is not compromised, which suits the theme and makes the site attractive. It uses a lot of animations and illustrations which is a really creative and playful way of communicating to the modern audience and makes the experience feel alive. However, all the illustrations can feel a bit overwhelming, especially for people who prefer simple designs. Sometimes, so much of creativity lead to confusion about where to go or what to do next. Its a good approach for people who are attracted to creativity but not everyone.

FUNCTIONALITY & USABILITY: The functionality of this website is pretty strong but also limited. Interactive elements like engaging with character animations are well-executed. Navigation is a bit confusing but its a really attractive and interesting way of communicating. However, the site lacks traditional navigation features, which may frustrate users who prefer a conventional web structure. Furthermore, accessibility is a bit concerning as the site does not provide features such as keyboard navigation, screen reader compatibility, or alternative text for non-text elements. This limits the site's usability as it might not be that easy for people who are not into creativity to understand the site.

PERFORMANCE: The site runs in good speed so we don't need to wait for long for it to download. The animations are smooth, and it adjusts well to different screens, whether on a phone or a laptop. The story and visuals on the site are well arranged in the playful theme. However, there’s not a lot of detailed information about what the campaign is really about or why it matters. If someone wants to learn more about "Live in Color" or how they can get involved, they might leave the site with questions. The game in the main attraction as its very addictive.

RECOMMENDATIONS: The website's message is not clear and could be made more direct and prominent. The layout could be more straightforward and easier to navigate, helping users understand the content better. The guidance on where to go next and what each illustration represents is not clear. Adding elements like buttons, arrows, or descriptive titles could improve navigation. The heavy use of graphics might not be attractive to everyone and could distract from the site's main purpose. A simpler version could be accessible and convenient for a broader audience. Additionally, illustrations may load slowly for users with limited internet speed, so converting them into images could improve performance and also less distractive.

Some graphics and emojis appear out of place and could be better arranged. There are multiple fonts used throughout the website which could be more consistent. Some of the slideshows are quite fast which distracts from the texts.

REFLECTION

This website analysis exercise gave me a clear understanding of what makes a website effective. I started to notice technical details in websites that I used to ignore before. I realized how important it is for a website to be well-organized so that it’s easy for users to understand and navigate. This was a really interesting exercise, but it was challenging too. Some websites had unclear purposes, which made it hard to understand their goals. Some were so confusing that navigating and analyzing them felt difficult. In the beginning, I wasn’t sure what or how I was supposed to analyze, but by referring to examples and working on the first website, it became easier as I progressed. Additionally, poor performance, such as slow loading times or issues with few sections, was a bit frustrating.

Overall, this task helped me recognize the strengths and weaknesses of different websites. It taught me the importance of balancing clear communication with aesthetically pleasing design to create effective and user-friendly websites.
