INSTRUCTION
For the weekly tutorial activity, we followed a Youtube tutorial of VFX editing in class on Adobe After Effects under the supervision of our tutor to understand how the tools work and get an idea on how we need to add the VFX on our final assignment.

For this project, we were divided into groups of 2 and had to come up with a short video using visual effects, based on a given theme from the tarot cards. The video had to tell a simple but strong story using voice over, music and sound effects. Our story had to be specific based on the theme given. Before starting the filming, we were asked to fill up a project proposal which included the basic information, storyboard, rough brief of the scenes, Music used, VFX tutorials and get it approved by our tutor. Once this was done, we proceeded to the shooting and then the compilation and editing on Adobe Premier Pro,later adding the VFX using After Effects. Lastly, the final video was to be uploaded on Youtube for submission.

After our proposal was accepted, we started working on the production phase. The first challenge we faced was finding a suitable empty venue where we can shoot. It took a long time to get permission and arrange a location that matched our story. Once the venue got finalized, we figured out setting up the lighting properly, as we wanted the scenes to look clear. After many tries, we finally managed to complete our first shoot and the results are there in the Google Drive. However, after reviewing it from our tutor, he gave us feedbacks accordingly and mentioned that the shooting quality and storyline were not strong enough. He gave us few suggestions and asked us to redo the entire shoot.
Taking the feedbacks into consideration, we started making changes in the storyline and the storyboard. We simplified some scenes, added new ideas and removed parts that were not working. Once the new storyboard was ready, we started the shooting process again, this time more carefully. The second shoot went smoother because we had learned from our previous mistakes.
After completing the shooting, we moved on to the editing phase. We used Adobe Premiere Pro to arrange the clips according to the updated storyboard, applied color correction to improve the visual quality and made few adjustments to make the story flow better and look appealing.
After that, we exported the project to Adobe After Effects, where we added visual effects and overlay effects using tutorials that we had chosen earlier. These effects helped enhance the overall look and feel of the video.
Finally, we added background music, voice-over and sound effects to make the video more engaging. After several rounds of improvements, we completed the final video and uploaded it on Youtube for submission.
This project was full of challenges one after the other, but it was also a great learning experience. The biggest problem we were facing from a long time was finding an empty venue to shoot our video as most of the auditorium we wanted to use were already busy and we had to wait long, go through booking and office again and again, before we could finally get a free space to shoot. Another major challenge was setting up proper lighting as we didn’t have professional lights, and using phone cameras made it more difficult as the video quality was not clear, especially in low light. Apart from the both our phones had broken cameras which made it more difficult. After we finally got done with the shoot, it was difficult to work as a team during editing because Adobe software like Premiere Pro and After Effects cannot be used by more than one person at the same time so only one person had to work on the editing at a time, and this made the overall process more delayed. Since we also had other assignments and projects, it was difficult to manage time and we already took a lot of time figuring out the shooting and the final footages. We initially did feel like we wont finish the video before the deadline or maybe we would just fail which got us more scared and nervous.
Even though it was one of the most tough project i did in the semester, it came our as a great learning experience too as we learned how to handle multiple projects, solve problems along the way, motivate ourselves to not give up, adapt to the adjustments according to the feedbacks and still work efficiently within the given deadline. We also improved our skills in video editing, video shooting, using VFX and working with sound and music. Most importantly, we learned to stay calm, be flexible and never give up, even when things don’t go as planned. This got me more confident as a designer on Video Production.
