PROGRESS WORK

For this assignment, we were asked to sketch out fundamentals of vehicle designing. The purpose of this was to understand the basic principles of vehicle, through a series of experiments important in developing vehicle concepts. We drew 3D sketches of real objects to understand volume and structure, deconstructed existing vehicles to understand shapes and proportions, silhouette and value studies to identify vehicle forms, also added perspective stud and line weight. Followed by texture tests and color tests to understand how it affects the identity, mood and visual appeal of the vehicle.

REFLECTION

This exercise was the first experience in understanding the vehicle design. It really helped me practice foundation and fundamentals in understanding how vehicles are designed and analyze vehicle structure. However, it was really difficult and overwhelming in the start but the weeks passed, practiced multiple sketches and got regular feedbacks, I became more confident in observing the vehicle structure.

Sketching the 3D objects helped me think about forms and structures in different angles, deconstruction of the existing vehicles taught me how vehicles are practically built using simple shapes and proportions, the silhouette and value studies improved my ability of vehicle designs, while the perspective studies helped me draw vehicles more accurately. Additionally, the texture studies helped me understand how to represent different materials realistically and the color tests showed me how color can influence the mood, identity and functionality of a vehicle. Weekly feedbacks helped me a lot to achieve this which also understanding the purpose behind it.

Overall, this project was really helpful to practice and experiment on different observations. It gave me a better understanding of the vehicle design process and made me more confident with the upcoming projects.
